Capital New York Could Open More Avenues For Politico

The nearly 5-minute video was released by the mayor-elect's transition team on Christmas Eve, days before de Blasio takes office on January 1. "Getting sober is always a positive thing," said Chiara de Blasio, 19, who was a regular presence in her father's mayoral campaign this fall. "We really can't do anything as a society to help those people until we start talking about it. And nobody can do sobriety on their own." De Blasio's wife, Chirlane McCray, and their children have played a prominent role in his political career. An ad this summer featuring his bi-racial son, Dante, became one of the most talked-about ads of the campaign and helped boost de celebs Blasio's popularity among minority voters concerned about controversial police tactics. De Blasio took on a difficult personal matter during the campaign, agreeing to one in-depth interview about his father's alcoholism and eventual suicide to pre-empt a newspaper article on the subject, which was published soon after. Decreased Spacing Has Cramped the New York Knicks? Style

"I think everybody is now bought into the fact that disruption is real: we're going to change, and let's just figure out how to change, do it profitably, but do it in a way that protects like the authenticity, the spirit, and the sanctity of the coverage because that's what matters." The Politico mothership is privately owned so its financial performance can't be independently verified, but VandeHei and other executives say it is profitable thanks to a combination of sponsorships and paid "Politico Pro" subscriptions. Capital New York had yet to turn a profit when Politico acquired it. VandeHei is now installing Politico's subscription model at [source] the new site, which is still being run by its founding editors Josh Benson and Tom McGeveran. "We're going to have a really robust free site and I don't think that the people who currently read us for free are going to miss what's behind the paywall, but we think it's going to be very valuable and useful for the subscribers," Benson said. "If we can get those two streams" the free and paid versions of the site "to dovetail, then it lets us keep going and doing more of what we want to do." Right now all of Capital New York's coverage is free; some of it will go behind the subscription wall in February, according to the company's current timeline. The paid version of Capital will, like Politico's paid version, depend in large part on the simplest of delivery methods: email. <br>Read more: http://money.cnn.com/2013/12/22/news/companies/politico-capital-new-york/index.html

New York mayor-elect's teen daughter shares struggles in video

Through games played on December 23, the Knicks gave up league-highs of 20.3 made free throws on 25.9 free throw attempts (tied with Golden State), while allowing opponents to shoot 46.3 percent from the field, tied for eighth-worst (tied with Memphis) in the league. However, opposing teams were only averaging the eighth-fewest (97.9) points per game while making the third-least (34.9) field goals and taking a league-low 75.3 shots per game against New York. So then, where does the real problem lie? On offense, where despite taking the 13th-most shots (83.6) in the NBA, the Knicks were making the sixth-fewest (36) while being tied or the same ranking in shooting percentage (43.0 percent; tied with Utah). Although New York ranked a healthy seventh in made 3-pointers (8.9 per game), the Knicks did so while attempting the third-most treys (25.4) in the league, for an inefficient 35.2 percent (ranking 17th) shooting from behind the arc.
